SEND Local Offer

Stamshaw Junior School is an inclusive school and recognises the definition of special educational needs and/or Disabilities (SEND) within the new SEND Code of Practice 2014:

“A child or young person has SEND if they have a learning difficulty or disability which calls for special educational provision to be made for them. A child of compulsory school age or a young person has a learning difficulty or disability if they:

  • have a significantly greater difficulty in learning than the majority of others of the same age; or
  • have a disability which prevents or hinders them from making use of educational facilities of a kind generally provided for others of the same age in mainstream schools.”

New government legislation asks schools to publish a ‘Local Offer’ for special educational; needs and/or disabilities (SEND).

A school’s Local Offer is to inform parents about:

  • how we welcome into our school children with SEND
  • how we support them in all aspects of school life and remove barriers to achievement
  • how we work in close partnership with parents and children
  • how we make effective provision for all of our children with SEND
